NSW: Police crackdown on prostitution
SYDNEY, April 28 AAP - Police struck a blow against prostitution in Sydney's west last
night making dozens of arrests in an operation targeting so-called kerb crawlers.
The term `kerb crawler' is used to describe a person that solicits prostitutes on the
roadside, from a vehicle.
A total of 55 men will face solicitation charges as a result of the two-night undercover
operation in the Campsie area, police said.
Two of the men were also charged with drink driving offences while another was charged
with unlicensed driving, a police spokesman said.
He said a woman was also charged with drug possession after police seized 125 ecstasy tablets.
"This operation is part of an ongoing campaign to target prostitution in the Campsie
area," the spokesman said.
"This particular operation was targeting curb crawlers."
Operation Sunninghill began in March and has so far resulted in 125 arrests and charges
over offences relating to prostitution, drug offences and traffic matters.
