SA: Easter drink driving blitz catches 72 offenders
ADELAIDE, April 12 AAP - An Easter drink driving blitz by police across South Australia
has caught 72 drink drivers and five drug offenders in a 12 hour period.
As part of the Easter road safety campaign, more than 200 police state-wide conducted
9075 drink driving tests and 335 drug tests between 6pm (CST) Saturday and 6.30am Sunday.
Of the 72 drink drivers found, 43 lost their driver's licence on the spot.
Police said among those breaking the law were a 45-year-old unlicensed driver at Port
Augusta with a blood alcohol level of 0.213 and a 19-year-old P-plater from Mile End with
a reading of 0.107.
"Drivers with impaired judgement continue to place themselves, their passengers and
other road users at risk," traffic support branch inspector Tony Crameri said in a statement.
"Police are asking the public to drive safely when returning home after the Easter break."
So far, South Australian roads have been fatality-free this Easter.
