SEOUL, July 3 Asia Pulse - South Korea's LG Electronics Inc. (KSE:066570) said Tuesday that it has signed a deal with YouTube to cooperate in producing a handset model operational for the world's leading video-sharing site.
Through the envisioned handset users will be able to upload, share and view video clips or user-created content (UCC) without having to turn on their computers, the company said.
LG Electronics said that its handset model with a UCC feature is expected to hit the European market first during the second half of this year.
The move comes after LG Electronics, the world's fifth-largest mobile phone manufacturer, agreed with Google Inc. in March to a strategic alliance in which they will produce the so-called "Google phone."
Google, the world's top internet search company, acquired YouTube late last year for $1.65 billion as a way to strengthen its video-linked online advertisement business.
YouTube is a leading global video-sharing web site with around 70,000 UCCs posted and more than 100 million people viewing the clips every day.
Earlier, Google Korea, a Korean unit of Google, said that it is seeking to launch a YouTube service localized for South Korean users during the second half of the year.
